Highlands Chase Results

Country's Fastest Downhill Skaters Compete at Gravity Games Highlands Chase

The Philippines' best longboard racers met on 30 and 31 January for two days of intense head-to-head competition. The event, co-presented by Tagaytay Highlands, Sector 9 and Aloha Board Sports drew participants from all over the country to test themselves against a beautiful 1.1 kilometer track in the resort which reaches top speeds just shy of 80 kph. A free skate clinic, Grom and Beginner races were conducted on Saturday, with the youngest competitor being only 13 years old. The anticipation built on Sunday morning as Paolo Villacorta put in the fastest qualifying time of 1 minute 6 seconds. The event culminated with the Open Division, where every single heat was tightly contested.

The race was the third Gravity Games and the first time it was held in the Tagaytay Highlands Resort. "It was an extremely successful event, and the racing was tight during the entire weekend", said Lasse Holopainen, Event Director of Gravity Games Asia. "There are a lot of exciting new riders out there and every single heat was fiercely contested", he added.

GG's FREESTYLE COMPETITION 2009 POSTPONED

Dear Fellow Skaters,

While we know that everyone has been looking forward to this Friday’s (October 2) freestyle competition, sometimes things happen that remind us that we part of a much larger community. Typhoon Ondoy has devastated the lives of our families and friends, and many longboarders included.  In light of this disaster, the Gravity Games crew has decided to postpone the Freestyle Competition to a later date.  All other events in Trinoma during this coming weekend have likewise been cancelled for the same reason.  We believe that at this point, all our efforts as a community should be directed to helping with the relief operations.  As such, the earmarked cash prizes for the freestyle competition have been donated to the flood victims on behalf of all Philippine Longboarders.

We always strive for stoke in our events, but unfortunately this time it would not be possible given the grief many of our countrymen are experiencing.   For now let’s all do what we can to help out the victims of this calamity.

All freestyle registration fees paid are applicable to the next Gravity Games event, or may be refunded should you so choose.  Do check out www.gravitygamesasia.com or email us at registration@gravitygamesasia.com for updates on the new scheduled date.

Stay safe, stay dry and we hope to see you again in brighter days.

NEWS:  7 August 2009

We would like to thank everyone who participated and graced our event despite the heavy rains!  Thank you for your overwhelming support and wonderful messages.

As announced during the Community Night celebration at Pier One, we have had to postpone the Freestyle Competition to a later date due to the heavy rains at the venue dance floor and to ensure the safety of the riders as concurred and approved by the Organizers, the Pier One venue owners and our valued sponsors and in compliance with our earlier-published Competition rules (see FreestyleRules Section VI on Event Postponement or Cancellation).  Instead, a One-Trick Competition was held to continue the festivities that evening.

Please watch out in the next few days for the announcement of the Freestyle Competition to be held in Metro Manila as we are working closely with our sponsors in making this another fun-filled and safe event.

More importantly, we would like to congratulate our winners:

MOA Signed by SBMA to host Gravity Games – Subic Bay 2009.

Subic Bay is set to become the venue of the next Philippine Gravity Games this 31 July to 2 August 2009.  The Gravity Games highlights the fast-growing extreme sport of Longboard skating.  The upcoming event in Subic Bay will feature a longboard free-style competition as well as a Downhill race where riders are expected to top 80 kph.

The event is expected to draw the top longboarders in the Country, with Gravity Games 2008 Freestyle winners Johndoy Tongco of the A-Boys of Cebu City and Adrian Gonzales of Whiskey Hill expected to defend against a pack of highly talented contenders.  The Downhill Race is shaping up to be a too close to call affair between the top riders of the Makati CBD team and Whiskey Hill, however the speed of the course and level of competition makes it entirely possible for a dark horse to skate away as the literal king of the hill.

The Finals of the Freestyle Competition will be held at Pier One Bar and Grill, Waterfront Drive, Subic Bay Freeport Zone on 1 August 2009, between
6 PM to Midnight, with DJ’s to provide a great background for what should be an exciting, family-friendly, competition.  The DH race will be held near Ilanin Bay.  Other attractions include a Longboard Video of the Year Contest as well as bands
and great music.
